Hoddesdon Juniors 2 of 3

2. Welcome to Hoddesdon Cricket Club Juniors 2025

Welcome to Hoddesdon Cricket Club Juniors!

At Hoddesdon Cricket Club, we’re proud to offer a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment for young cricketers of all ages and abilities. Whether your child is picking up a bat for the first time or looking to develop their skills further, our junior section provides a great place to learn, play, and make new friends.

With qualified coaches, structured training sessions, and regular matches, we focus on building confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love for the game. We welcome boys and girls from age 5 upwards, and there’s a clear pathway from All Stars Cricket through to our youth teams and beyond.

Come and be part of the Hoddesdon cricket family!

Teams in the Junior section (mixed - boys and girls)

All Stars 5 – 8yrs old (Reception, Y2, Y3)

The All Stars will train on Friday evenings (6-7.15pm) and Sunday mornings (11-12pm) with Coach Scott coordinating our club coaches. The All Stars is an introduction to cricket and is designed to make learning cricket fun!
The All Stars sign up is via ECB and the link for this is HERE

Under 9s Cadets (Years 2/3/4) – *REPLACING DYNAMO’S

If children have attended All Stars before and are showing signs of being ready to play, Scott will also be coaching and overseeing our newest group, the U9 Cadets. These juniors will be Y2/3/4 and assessed as ready to start playing matches. This group will be an introduction to playing games and a pathway to our more experienced U9/10s squad. *The U9 Cadets is replacing the Dynamo’s, which has run in previous years. The reason for replacing the Dynamo’s is that we want to offer slightly more advanced training to this group with regards to match play as well as getting our juniors playing matches against other teams.

The U9 Cadets will play in a league and we will look to arrange as many of the games as possible on Sunday mornings from 10-12pm. Scott will have an overview of the All Stars group as a whole and will look to speak with parents if he thinks someone is ready to be drafted into the new U9s Cadet team and expose them to matches and moving on from All Stars to age group cricket. If your junior accepts an invitation to graduate to the U9 Cadets, there will be small Cadet club membership, which includes being covered on our club insurance for matches. The U9 Cadets will train on Friday evenings (6-7.15pm) and Sunday mornings (11-12pm).

The link to sign up as a Cadet is HERE

We are seeking assistance from parents who can support with admin, scoring, match day management and anyone interested in coaching.

U9/U10 squad (Years 4 & 5)

This group will train Fridays (6-7.30pm) and Sundays (10-12pm). We are looking to arrange as many home games as possible for Friday evenings (6-8.30pm).

The squad will work similarly to last year where U10s will be supported by the U9s, who will be eligible for both 9/10s leagues. The group will be coached by Mick and Jamie and they will have flexibility in training to identify those who are more suitable for U10s games, but essentially, all juniors should be given fair opportunity to play in games they are eligible for. As ever, we are grateful to Clive, who will oversee this to ensure all juniors get fair game time.

The link to sign up for U9-U12’s is HERE

We are seeking assistance from parents who can support with admin, scoring, match day management and anyone interested in coaching.

U11/U12/U13 squad (Year 6/7/8)

This group will train on Sundays 10-12pm, with games organised for weekdays (6-9pm).
The squad will be coached and managed by Guy, with support from Clayton, who is our overseas player for 2025 season. The squad will be entered into U12 and U13 leagues and will work similarly to the U9/10s squad where younger players who are ready will play their own age group as well as supporting the older age group games where required and will again be monitored by Clive to ensure a fair split of games between those juniors eligible and available.

The link to sign up for U9-U12’s is HERE

The link to sign up for U13-U17’s is HERE

Please also note that those juniors in the U13s (Y8) are also eligible for senior cricket and we encourage anyone in this age group to attend club training on Tuesday/Thursdays 6-8pm as well as having the opportunity to be selected for Saturday and Sunday games.

We are seeking assistance from parents who can support with admin, scoring, match day management and anyone interested in coaching.

Juniors Playing Cricket

Our Season runs from May – September and all training and HOME games take place at Hoddesdon Cricket Club, Park View, Hoddesdon, Herts. EN11 8NS.

We do hold winter training – details are released towards the end of the season and throughout the close season. Winter training sessions cost £5 per session and is charged via pitchero and can be paid online.

Training at Hoddesdon throughout the summer is included within your subscription fee, however we do charge a match fee of £3 per game. This is charged via pitchero and can be paid online.

Games are a combination of home and away fixtures across Hertfordshire throughout the season. All fixtures are available at the start of each season and players availability for training / games is set via the 'Pitchero App'

While we want all of our players and teams to perform well and win, our priority is to ensure each and every junior has the same opportunities as each other, that they are encouraged to enjoy themselves and that they want to come back and play more cricket. Our age group teams are mixed ability sides with the focus on inclusivity.

Kit – and what your junior will need

Cricket can be an expensive sport if you are buying all the clothing and equipment, however you don’t need to buy all of the branded kit immediately - unless you want to of course!

As an All Star, we would encourage your junior to wear the All Stars top – and to have their name on the top to avoid anything getting lost….not to mention helping our coaches out with name reminders!! Equipment will be provided for all sessions.
As an age group member, for training, sports tops - t-shirt or polo shirts are fine, shorts or jogging pants are also acceptable. For matches, we are encouraging our juniors to wear dark trousers. These can either be purchased from our club webshop, or can be unbranded jogging pants. Ideally, a Hoddy playing shirt for matches (purchased from the webshop), but as a minimum, a white polo/t-shirt. Equipment will be provided for all sessions and matches, however juniors are also welcome to purchase and/or bring their own bats.

Cricket Shoes
– they don’t need to be ‘spikes’, trainers are fine, especially in the younger age groups where we may be playing on artificial wickets, however your junior may wish to purchase spikes as they get to the o
lder age groups.

Cricket equipment – bat, gloves, pads, helmet, cricket box etc – Once your junior starts playing hard ball, these are essential. We can provide some equipment and encourage all juniors to share. We also have a donation scheme where we ask for reusable equipment no longer needed is donated to the club for us to “re-sell” for a £5 per item donation, with any donation going back into Hoddy Juniors.
Suncream, hats and sunglasses are essential for all children.

Parents & Supporters

As chief cheerleader, it’s important you’re prepared as well. Whilst we are blessed with only playing in nice weather, it’s important to bring suncream, water bottles (especially for away games which may not have refreshments available), hats, sunglasses and anything else you need to be comfortable if we are lucky enough to have sunshine and no shade.
Folding chair (or a picnic rug when the weather is warmer) and playing away – again, not all clubs have the facilities we have at Hoddesdon.
While we always welcome all our members and supporters to the bar, we do also appreciate a cold drink or three may go down well on a lovely sunny day! All we ask is to please remember we are a family club and any anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated, especially around our Juniors.
We would highly recommend parents and supporters to sign up as a social member so you can enjoy 20% off prices at the bar. This membership is a 365 day membership meaning you can come to Lowfield during the Football season as well and enjoy the same discount all year round! You can purchase this Lowfield 365 membership HERE
Please remember that vaping and smoking is not allowed in our clubhouse.

Buddy up!

When you come along for the first time it can be a little intimidating – for you and your junior superstar! Please do speak to your team coach or admin and we will look introduce you to a parent ‘buddy’ so you can be confident that you’ll have someone to watch with at training or matches and they will no doubt introduce you to other parents too. Your junior will also have a team ‘buddy’ to help them feel welcome. Hopefully, before too long, you will be doing the same for the next newbie!

One of the best ways to get involved with our club is to volunteer! Your team coach will share details of any support needed (eg parent link/admin/buddy/scorer/match manager/coaching) – please don’t be shy – our club junior section is built on volunteers giving their time to assist with our age groups for your local community club.

Annual Subscriptions

With the exception of the All Stars programme, which is purchased via the ECB HERE, all other age group cricket at Hoddesdon is purchased via an annual subscription from the website.

The first three sessions are not charged for new players, but beyond that and in order to be able to play in any games, you will be required to pay subs. These subs are payable each season.

There are three stages to get your child registered.

1. You will need to complete our initial sign up form: HERE

2. You will need to Register on the Hoddesdon CC Pitchero website HERE (You then be required to enter your child’s details as well as part of the process):

3. Following the successful Trial Period you will need to purchase the relevant membership for your child which can be found HERE

We would also encourage you to purchase our Lowfield365 Social Membership which gives you a discount at the bar and also in restaurants and local amenities in Hoddesdon – Our Lowfield 365 Membership Site See our L365 website for more information on the benefits of membership

If you require any support with the sign up process of have any questions on which membership to purchase, please do speak with either Clive, Mick, Adrian or Melissa.

Fundraising Lottery

Hoddesdon Cricket Club is a proud participant in My Club Wins. My Club Wins is a monthly lottery helping cricket clubs like ours raise much needed funds with generous prizes to players and to clubs. Tickets are £5 a month and 50% of funds raised are donated back to the club, providing long-term sustainable revenues. It's a fun, no risk, no cost, digitally accessible lottery.
We aim to raise £1,000+ each year and will use the money to fund coaching in our junior section, improve our ground, improve clubhouse amenities, provide equipment, a new infrastructure project and outreach activity.
The monthly draw takes place on the final Friday of each month. The prizes for the next draw are detailed above in the section headed “Prizes & Results” where information about the prize winners from the previous month is also provided.
Please support Hoddesdon Cricket Club by signing up to play My Club Wins today. It’s a win-win! SIGN UP HERE

------------------------------------------------

We hope you find this guide helpful. If there’s anything else you think we should include, please let us know! In the meantime, we have provisionally planned for two Hoddy 50 festival days this season, with further events to be announced.

We will shortly be updating you on our plans for Girl’s cricket in 2025 as we want to continue building on the great success of our first ever girls only game last season.

As mentioned, we will be actively looking for support from within the age group squad groups for potential match managers, parent link admins, potential new coaches and scorers. None of these squads can function without volunteers, coaches and match managers, so we would encourage anyone who wishes to learn what is involved to get in contact with Clive, Mick, Adrian or Melissa. Full support and training will be provided to all of our volunteers.
