Peter Ellis will be well known to only a few members of Hoddesdon CC. For 32 years from the mid-Sixties he coached cricket at Haileybury and for even more years he played cricket and undertook other roles at St Margaretsbury CC, a club against whom we had a terrific but friendly rivalry.
Peter’s son, Richard, will be known to many more members. Richard played first-class cricket for Oxford University, Middlesex and Gloucestershire and, of course for Hoddesdon CC, captaining the side in the early-90’s, while fulfilling many other roles.
A fine cricketer, a fine coach and a fine human being, Peter Ellis died last week aged 89. He had a huge impact on very many cricketers in the local community. His funeral is at Woollensbrook Crematorium (Hertford Road, Hoddesdon, EN11 9BN) at 4pm on Friday 24 June. It will be followed by a few glasses at St Margaretsbury CC when we will raise a glass.
Richard and the family wish you to know that everyone is welcome to attend Peter’s funeral and honour his life. It might be standing room only so you are advise getting there early if you intend to be part of this important occasion.
Our condolences are sent to Richard and all of Peters family
RIP Peter.
