Hoddesdon Cricket Club has existed since 1879 playing on the existing Lowfield site throughout that time. We cater for cricketers of every age and gender with ECB Clubmark Accreditation evidencing that we are a safe, effective, and well-run club.
With over 50 adult playing members, a junior section of around 60 8 – 16-year-olds and a further 50 non-playing or social members that include octogenarians who have been members for 60 years, we think of ourselves as a family club. Those of every age, background and enthusiasm are made to feel welcome regardless of any cricketing prowess.
We also consider ourselves a community club and, while cricket is our core purpose, we want to play our part within the broader community. Almost all our members live on our relative doorstep or else have their roots in the locality and we are proud that over 90% of our players are entirely home-grown. We are an amateur, self-help cricket club. Not only does no-one get paid to play (unlike many other clubs), but we expect all our members – those that play and those that don’t – to do their bit to get the jobs done and move the club forwards. There are always challenges involved in running amateur sports clubs, but everything becomes possible with good plans and with willing people.
On Saturdays we field five adult teams in the Saracens Hertfordshire Premier Cricket League, providing a standard of cricket on Saturdays to suit all abilities. The 1st team play in the Premier Division at a higher standard than any other club in the Borough of Broxbourne. Our Junior Section is brilliantly led, and we have five junior teams whose players are our future. Off the cricket field we enjoy a broad range of social activity to suit almost all ages and tastes!
Adult training is held on Tuesdays & Thursdays for the 1’s and 2’s and Wednesdays for the 3’s, 4’s and 5’s and our thriving open-age Colts training session is on Sunday mornings between 10-12. We are always welcoming to new players of all ages and abilities.
If you don’t know us, come and say hello. You are assured of a warm welcome.
